1. PURPOSE / DESCRIPTION
To give a rough guideline of how to install and setup ANSYS software and license manager.
2. PROCEDURE
First, download the needed package (Most likely the Fluids package) from ANSYS Customer Portal and unzip the file in desired location.
Setting up the server machine and License Manager
The server machine is the one and only computer that needs to have access to a license file that is made specifically for that machine. (Video instructions for setup in Windows: https://www.youtube.com/embed/ACEErNtnJA0)
- Search in the unzipped package for exe and run it to install the License Manager (or you can run setup.exe and click on Install ANSYS License Manager).
- After installing the license manager, keep the checkmark on “Launch License Management Center upon exiting” and then exit. Or you can launch License Manager by searching and launching ANSYS License Management Center in start most likely under the “ANSYS, Inc. License Manager” folder
- Go to the “Add A License File” tab in the License Management Center.
- Make exceptions in the Windows Firewall for the executable files exe, ansysli_monitor.exe, ansysli_client.exe, ansyslmd.exe, and lmgrd.exe in this directory or one similar: C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\winx64
- Click and open/upload the related license file. The license file has to be the file created for that specific computer, or else the License Manager will fail to run.
- If the file does not run, first confirm that the hostname and Disk serial number shown in the License Management Center matches the hostname (next to “SERVER”) and Disk serial number shown in the license text file.
- If the hostname and disk serial number do not match or do match but the file does not work, contact ANSYS customer support service and ask for correct re-hosting of the license file for that specific computer.
- Run the Server ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility as administrator and click “Specify the License Server Machine”
- Make sure that the hostname of the server machine matches that of the computer. If they do not match, then highlight and click “Edit Selected Server Machine.” Keep the port numbers at default unless instructed otherwise. If there is none in the list, click “Add Server Machine Specifications” and use the hostname of the computer and default port numbers.
- Return to the Utility window, click “View Status/Diagnostic Options,” and click “Display the License Status.” If that runs without a problem, then the server machine is ready.
Any problems encountered that are outside the scope of the instructions should be taken to customer support service representatives.
Setting up the client machine for ANSYS program use
The client does not need to set up the License Manager as the server machine did. The client machine only needs to know the hostname of the server.
(Video instructions for ANSYS installation: https://www.youtube.com/embed/htSsDKhUugE)
- Run exe from the unzipped package. Choose “Install ANSYS Products” in the window that appears and install with desired options.
- After completing the installation of ANSYS product, launch the Client ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility as administrator. Here is where it would be in Windows 7.
- In the Client ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility, click on “Specify the License Server Machine.”
- Confirm that the listed hostname of the server machine matches that of the actual server machine. If there is none in the list, click “Add Server Machine Specifications” and use the hostname of the server machine and default port numbers.
- If they do not match, then highlight the line as shown and click “Edit Selected Server Machine” and change the hostname 1 to match that of the server machine. Port numbers should be kept at default unless instructed otherwise.
- Return to the Utility and click on “View Status/Diagnostic Options >>>” and then “Display the License Status.” If that runs without a problem, then it is done.
Any problems encountered that are outside the scope of the instructions should be taken to customer support service representatives.
